Meet Vixen: Cat Eyes, Long Legs & Exotic Energy 🖤✨
She’s strange. She’s elegant. She’s slightly intimidating.
Obviously, I love her.
Okayyyy… look who finally made her entrance. 👀
I received my new pre-subadult female Cat-Eye Mantis,
scientifically known as Heterochaeta orientalis, and I am
completely obsessed with her already.
There was really only one question left once I saw her in person:
what am I going to name this girl?
Her Name Is…
I named her Vixen because she gives me such an
exotic, mysterious, almost otherworldly vibe.
It’s the long, ridiculously skinny limbs, her delicate
stick-like body and, of course, those unmistakable
slanted cat eyes.
She doesn’t look sweet and dainty in the same way some of my flower
mantises do. Vixen looks like she belongs somewhere glamorous,
strange and slightly dangerous.
The name is SO fitting for her. 🖤
✦ Vixen Right Now ✦
My gorgeous pre-subadult girl.
And THIS Is What She’s Going To Look Like… 😍
As gorgeous as Vixen is now, wait until she’s an adult.
Cat-Eye Mantises become these incredibly long, dramatic,
alien-looking beauties and I seriously cannot wait to watch her grow.
This is one of my favorite parts about raising mantises:
getting them young enough that I can watch their entire transformation.
Every molt changes them a little bit, and with a species this unusual,
I feel like Vixen is going to become more and more gorgeous every time.
Meanwhile, In The Nursery…
We Have Babies Brewing 👀
My Gambian Spotted-Eye Flower Mantis
(Pseudoharpax virescens) ootheca is also looking
healthy and doing exactly what I want it to be doing:
sitting there making me impatient. 😂
If everything continues going well, it should hatch in
about a month.
The little ootheca currently holding what could become a whole lot of tiny trouble. ♡
And when I say I am going to lose my mind the second I see the first
tiny mantis emerge from this thing…
I absolutely mean it.
So between Vixen settling in and the Gambian babies hopefully making
their debut soon, Honey’s Pretty Little Creatures is becoming
quite the little exotic nursery around here.

✦ A Little Side Note ✦
Dear Diary… 💌
As a lot of you already know,
I write in my personal diary every single day.
I’ve had a diary for as long as I can remember.
There’s just something about putting pen to paper and documenting
my life — the memories, the chaos, the secrets, the things I’m
thinking and probably shouldn’t say out loud — that I’ve always loved.
Tomorrow is actually a little bittersweet because I’ll be writing
on the very last pages of my current diary.
Obviously that meant I needed to find its replacement…
And somehow I ended up falling completely in love with
this gorgeous vintage one.
I mean… look at her. 🤎📖
It’s definitely outside of my normal Harley Quinn theme,
which makes it a little unexpected for me.
Usually I know exactly what aesthetic I’m going for, and this is
completely different.
But I couldn’t help it. I absolutely fell in love with
the worn leather, old pages, little key and that entire
romantic vintage aesthetic.
It looks like the kind of diary that’s already holding a hundred
years worth of secrets before I’ve even written the first one.
And honestly?
That makes me love it even more. ♡
